Exclusive Corr House and farm up for sale, Longford Leader, 30 May 2008

One of the biggest farms to come on the market this year is at Cornafean, Co Cavan. Situated at Corr House the farmland extends to 135 acres and comes onto the market with a gate lodge, a two storey period residence and some stone outbuildings. It has been in the Farris family for a substantial number of years and the lady of the house was reknowned for her collection of vintage machinery - The Pig House Collection - which she displayed in her yard for many years.
There is a long country avenue to the farm, taking in some wonderful parkland.
The farm has been leased for the last 15 years and is a combination of small fields coupled with thick natural hedgerows offering oodles of shelter. The land is split by a country road with about 41.5 acres at the back of the farm situated directly across the road from the house on 94 acres.
The section on which the house stands is laid out in numerous fields ranging from just few acres to at least 10 acres which will be meadow in another couple of weeks. There are a number of fields at the back of the farm which can be accessed off a laneway and although there is expansive elevated countryside views and extensive road frontage, the 41 acres across the road is definitely in need of attention. There is no doubt that if planning permission were granded for a house, the site would be perfect and water to the house is supplied from a group water scheme.
Extending to 2,700 square feet, Corr House was built in the late 19th century on a gently elevated site in the heartlands of Co Cavan. It is in need of complete refurbishment and features include original flagstones, fireplaces' and cornicing, and big spacious reception rooms. Accommodation includes a large drawing room, large dining room, kitchen, two bathrooms, four bedrooms and a pantry. Outside there are two stone buildings, one which was the old dairy and which extends 680 square feet. It is lofted, while the other comes with the old style open fireplace and was used by the owner to display her vintage range of farm machinery.
This must see property is located four miles from both Ballinagh and Killeshandra and will be offered for sale in one of five lots that include the house and yard on 71 acres; 23 acres; 11.5 acres; 16.5 acres and 13.5 acres respectively.
Selling agents Colliers Jackson-Stops, Dublin will auction the farm on June 11 at 3pm in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan. A guide in the region of €1.6 million is quoted for the entire lot and there are no entitlements with this farm.
