..as desperate sellers slash their asking prices, we round up a selection of the most tempting discounts on offer throughout the country.
Welcome to the ultimate buyer's market. If you're lucky enough to have that all-important financing in place, there's no shortage of choice out there.
In fact, there are almost 70,000 properties to choose from.
A recent survey by property website daft.ie revealed that there are twice the number of houses for sale in July 2008 than there were at the start of 2007.
With so many homes on the market competing for the wallets of the commitment-shy buyer, prices drops are the most likely outcome. Some vendors have already done that, slicing thousands off their original asking price in an effort to get punters through the door. Here are just a few examples of what sort of price-cuts sellers are making to ensure that their home doesn't get left on the shelf...
It's a snip... €100k-€500k
About 35km from Galway city, Attymon House in Athenry is a restored and extended period property with a converted coach yard and stable yard. Sitting on estate of about 26.25 hectares, Attymon House was originally quoted at €2.6m but has been reduced to €2.3m. Space isn't a problem with the accommodation in the four-bed main house extending to approximately 334sq.m. (3,600sq.ft.). The converted coach house is ideal for guests, with three bedrooms and 223sq.m. (2,400sq.ft.) of living space. A single-storey cottage is also included in the sale. It may be the most sought after postal code in the city, but property in Dublin 4 has not been immune to price cuts in recent months. Take 3 Northumberland Place as an example. A three-bed end of terrace townhouse, it is located in the centre of Ballsbridge and has seen a cut of €70,000. Now priced at €830,000, the house has a floor area of approximately 95sq.m. (1,022sq.ft.) with two of the double bedrooms en suite. Part of a secure, gated development, the property also has a west-facing patio garden. Agent: Colliers Jackson-Stops - Tel (01) 6333700.
And if D4 is too out-of-town, then 3 Pearse Square in Dublin 2 may appeal. A three-bed terraced Victorian townhouse, it covers 167sq.m. (1,797sq.ft.) and has a 20m-long rear garden - not to mention an elegant communal green. Retaining many period features, it is a 15-minute walk from Grafton Street. The price has been reduced from €1.35m to €1.275m but the current owners are open to negotiation. Agent: Colliers Jackson-Stops - Tel (01) 6333700.
